She's a thoroughly Muslim
"Islam is my way of life!"
I was touched by this quote.. Hampir bergenang air mata saya apabila terdengar ayat ini dalam video di bawah.
Having had to live in the non-Muslim community was difficult for me in the beginning of my year in the UK. Remembering that I was the only Muslim girl in my course [Bsc Occupational Therapy] who still practicing Islam, I was petrified.
I am wearing ‘hijjab’. Some of my friends said, it’s a table cloth to cover my hair. Some said, it’s a nice veil to cover your ears from the cold. And some said, it’s a nice-beautiful-colourful scarf on your head, Mahfuzah!
I was worried about how they are going to perceive me in this colourful ‘hijjab’. The first thought was, I will not take off my ‘hijjab’!! Hijjab is part of me. In the Qur’an, I was told to have ‘this’ [referring to hijjab].
What do you feel when you wear ‘hijjab’ or in Malay word, ‘tudung’?
I feel strong. It is wonderful to realise that when I wearing it, my confidence grows stronger. Strong in the spirit. Strong in the mind.
I feel safe with ‘hijjab’. Look how man treat woman who wears it. So many examples that I don’t need to explain. They see woman in hijjab with dignity. Dignity is the most precious thing for women. Agree? How wonderful Islam make me feel this way!
You choose your way! [with great understanding based from the Qur’an]

“Is that what you use to find direction for your prayer, Mahfuzah?” asked Alex when she saw my manual compass in my pocket. [Yelahh..saya takde kompas kat handphone..guna yang manual punye je..kena pusing-pusing baru dapat direction]
I pray 5 times a day. The most difficult thing to do when I was trained to do this 13 years ago. Today, I can feel the difference.
When I first came to the UK, I wondered, how am I going to pray when I need to? They don’t have a break for ‘solat’. All I need to do is to ask permission to ‘solat’ at the back of our discussion room [when we have 5-hour discussion for group presentation preparation].
Let them see how I perform my prayer. Performing my faith. Practising my way of life. Praising my Creator.
This is the way of being a Muslim.
“I could not imagine myself without Islam”. I am still learning. Learning about Islam. Learning how to practice Islam.
I hope I can be one of the little ‘ambassador’ for Islam in this non-Muslim community. My dream is neither big nor too ambitious. Achievable I supposed.
P/S: I want to use my own ability/credibility for Islam! Things to improve - -> Knowledge based from the Qur’an, behave as a Muslimah!! And to lessen my laughter!! [saya banyak ketawa okay]
